The seniors in our community need you! Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help meet their needs.

Senior Concerns has several new programs to support seniors in our community and their family caregivers. Our goal is to ensure that our community’s most vulnerable population and their caregivers have everything they need to remain supported.

Volunteers are needed to fill several roles at Senior Concerns to make our programs possible. We are looking for help in the following areas:

  • Bargain Boutique & Thrift Store
  • Meals On Wheels Delivery Drivers
  • Home Delivered Meal Program
  • Adult Day Program

ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Bargain Boutique and Thrift Store

Location 80 E. Hillcrest, Thousand Oaks

Unique treasures, gently-used clothing and vintage trinkets grace the shelves of Senior Concerns’ Bargain Boutique and Thrift Store. Jewelry, small furniture, crystal, china, clothing, antiques and one-of-a-kind finds make the Bargain Boutique a favorite, feel-good place to shop.  Open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Tuesday-Saturday for shopping. The Bargain Boutique accepts donations from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday-Friday.

  • Morning and afternoon shifts available Tuesday through Sunday.
  • Volunteer duties:
    • Cashiering
    • Merchandising
    • Sorting through donations and pricing them
    • Research on specialty items

Meals on Wheels

Location 150 Via Merida, Westlake Village, CA

The Senior Concerns’ Meals On Wheels program ensures homebound seniors get to eat nutritious, freshly prepared meals by delivering meals to their doorstep. More than 85 community volunteers deliver close to 37,000 nutritionally balanced hot lunches and light meals to seniors in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills. Meals are available 365 days a year. In addition to the delicious food, prepared in the kitchens of Los Robles Rehabilitation Hospital in accordance with the Senior Nutrition Program, Meals On Wheels’ volunteers deliver holiday gifts and surprises, as well as daily smiles and friendly conversation to seniors.

  • Pick up meals for your route at Los Robles Rehabilitation Hospital between 10:45 AM and 11:00 AM
  • Plan on two hours to deliver meals (this varies according to the route.)
  • Regular drivers drive the same route on the same day each week.
  • Substitute drivers are asked to drive any route needing a substitute driver.  
  • We ask that substitute drivers try to drive two to three times per month.
  • Duties include sharing smiles with seniors and careful delivery of the food prepared especially for them.

Home Delivered Meal Program

Location:
Newbury Park

This meal program was designed to support homebound seniors by delivering nutritious meals to their homes. These meals are delivered to Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park residents. In addition to meals, the volunteer drivers provide a daily check in and friendly conversation.

  • Meals are picked up at the restaurant at approximately 11:00 am.
  • Deliveries are on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Plan on 1 to 2 hours to deliver the meals (this varies based on the route).
  • Regular drivers can deliver the same route each week.
  • Substitute drivers are asked to drive any of the routes which need a driver for that day.

Adult Day Program

Location 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks

The Senior Concerns Adult Day program is a place where older adults with cognitive and/or physical impairments can come to enjoy activities and socialization with the care and supervision they need.  Our participants look forward to their time at the Adult Day Center, where they can participate in fun, enriching programs and activities that help fulfill social, spiritual and recreational needs while socializing with peers in a friendly, respectful and caring environment.

Volunteers help augment our programs and provide more individual attention to our participants. Volunteers may help with:

  • Engaging in conversations with participants
  • Assisting to lead or facilitate activities at your comfort level
  • Serving snacks and drinks as needed

Main hours of the program are between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.  We request volunteer sign up for a 2-hour shift.
