Volunteer at Senior Concerns

Volunteers

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. With your help, Senior Concerns can fulfill its mission providing vital programs and services for frail and special-need seniors.  All ages join with us to build a secure foundation for our participants.  Our volunteers are from diverse backgrounds, yet all are devoted to the idea, “Respecting Yesterday, Caring Today and Planning for Tomorrow.”

Volunteer Positions

Thift Store/Bargain Boutique

A retail outlet for new and donated quality merchandise, the Bargain Boutique’s varied inventory includes gently used clothing, house wares, toys and a vast selection of collectibles from hand painted antique plates to jewelry and more. Volunteers help us by sorting and pricing of donated merchandise standards, displaying merchandise, and maintaining shop appearance.

Specific responsibilities of the volunteers: 

  • Straighten the clothing and displays
  • Assisting customers with questions
  • Sorting and pricing merchandise
  • Answer the phone
 

Adult Day Center Volunteer

Skills Needed:

  • Preparing and organizing arts and crafts
  • Assisting seniors make their arts and craft projects
  • Decorating bulletin boards, scrapbooking 
  • Lead or join in with discussion groups, singing or playing an instrument or performing another type of entertainment.
  • Sharing a hobby or favorite collection
  • Play or leading games
  • Gardening
  • Talking 
  • Most importantly - A loving heart. Tell us what skills you have and we will fit you in.

Time commitment:

  • Monthly, weekly or daily
  • One to as many hours we are open
  • 9 a.m. -3 p.m.- Monday through Friday.
  • 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.- two Saturdays per month

Work schedule:

Entertainment and most activities we need help with are from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the morning or 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the afternoon. Volunteers are also welcome to help greet our participants from 7:30 to 9:30 in the morning and join our coffee klatch and news reading and discussion, help with exercise at 11:00, serve lunch at 11:30 a.m. Help with Bingo and other games at 2:00 and help serve snacks and say goodbye at 2:30.

 

Meals on Wheels Driver

Do you want to make a difference in your community and put a smile on a senior's face? With as litte as two hours per week of your time, you can help!

Come and join us as a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. We are looking for friendly, personable people to deliver meals to seniors throughout Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park.

 

Senior Chat
Advocates reach out to homebound and isolated seniors to provide resources, referrals, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing that someone will take the appropriate steps to obtain assistance should the need arise. 

Fundraising Events
Senior concerns holds three fundraising events each year; the Love Run, the Ultimate Dining Experience, and the Nutcracker Tea.  Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of the events, such as, decorating, collecting silent and live auction items, identifying possible new event sponsors, selling event tickets, working the day of the events and much more.
