๐ Frieda & Susan
Frieda:
โI really like Meals on Wheels. I first received it when my husband Jerry was living with both dementia and Parkinsonโs. I always had to be โonโ โ there was no break. The drivers became such a bright spot in my day. Iโve met so many kind people, but Susan has a special way of lifting my spirits. When Iโm feeling down, she makes me laugh โ and suddenly, I feel better. She genuinely wants to know how Iโm doing. Sometimes we even laugh about my wrinkles!โ
Susan, Volunteer Driver (30 years):
โSo many of the people we deliver to are completely alone. For many, weโre the only person they see all day. Delivering meals isnโt just about food โ itโs about making sure someone is okay. And you can see how happy they are when you arrive. That moment matters.โ
๐ Claire & Harlene
Claire doesnโt always engage in conversation โ but one day, when her driver Harlene asked how she was doing, Claire smiled brightly and said,
โItโs neat when you come over!โ
Harlene, Volunteer Driver (10 years):
โPeople sometimes ask me, โIsnโt that sad?โ And I tell them โ not at all. There is so much joy in this work. Iโve learned so much from these wise, beautiful people. Iโve watched seniors go from shy and fearful to smiling with confidence โ because they feel comfortable, needed, wanted, and heard. Thatโs what this connection does.โ
๐ Brenda & Elaine
Elaine, Volunteer Driver (since 2018):
โI love being out in the community and meeting people like Brenda. Knowing I can bring a little comfort, nourishment, and conversation โ that connection is powerful. It means everything to feel like youโve made a difference in someoneโs life.โ
Brenda:
โI start waiting for Elaine on Sunday night โ the night before she comes. Iโm so happy knowing sheโs on her way. I get hungry, too! She always has my meal, and she always has my back.โ

And for many, it brings the most important thing of all:
someone who shows up.
