The Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting on April 8, 2025, highlighted the vital role of Senior Concerns, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting older adults and their caregivers in the Conejo Valley area. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Senior Concerns has become a trusted resource, serving approximately 13,000 seniors annually through essential programs such as Meals on Wheels, which delivers over 65,000 meals to homebound seniors, and an adult day center that provides over 20,000 hours of care.

During the meeting, representatives emphasized the organization’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and their caregivers. They noted that Senior Concerns not only addresses the needs of older adults but also supports the caregivers who assist them, offering resources on topics ranging from housing rights to dementia education. The organization relies heavily on the dedication of over 440 volunteers who contribute more than 10,700 hours each year, alongside generous community donations.

In her remarks, Andrea, a representative from Senior Concerns, acknowledged the growing challenges faced by the aging population in Ventura County. With the number of residents aged 60 and older now surpassing those under 18, there is increasing pressure on the senior support system. Many older adults are grappling with chronic health issues, transportation difficulties, and social isolation, compounded by concerns over rising living costs and potential cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration among local leaders, nonprofit organizations, and community members to ensure that seniors are not left behind. As the community looks to the future, the commitment to building a more supportive and age-friendly environment remains a priority, with hopes for continued partnership and support for the next 50 years.
