Welcome to “5 Things You Need to Know Today,” a daily Patch feature that provides five quick tidbits of information in one spot. Here they are:

  1. A senior advocate from Senior Concerns will be providing services monthly at the Active Adult Center. She can help with a variety of issues, including housing, transportation, legal issues, health, government benefits and more. The next advocate day is Jan. 25 and consultations are by appointment beginning at 9:30 a.m. Call the center at 805-517-6261 to schedule a meeting.
  2. On Saturday, the library will host the monthly 4 Paws Book Club for kids. Children can read to a real live dog. Sign ups are on a first-come, first-served basis. The event runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
  3. Also on Saturday, the Rustic Canyon Golf Course is hosting a free winter junior golf day. There will be free junior golf clinics, games and contests for ages 6-13, but only for the first 30 people to make reservations. Sign up by emailing
  4. The National Weather Service is predicting a high near 84 and a low near 48 degrees
  5. Moorpark’s lowest price per gallon for regular gas is $3.69, according to Find it at the Union 76 stations at 13800 Princeton Ave. and 550 W. Los Angeles Ave., the Shell station at 6599 Collins Drive and the Alliance station at 50 W. Los Angeles Ave.
