Q: A friend of mine just told me that she has attended several presentations of interest to seniors at the Westlake Village Civic Center. Is this an ongoing offering and, if so, can you provide particulars?

A: Your friend is right on the mark. Senior Concerns and the city of Westlake Village present a monthly seminar at the Westlake Village Civic Center.

The series is titled “Senior Issues” and is scheduled from 1:30-3 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month except January, August and December.

The next seminar is July 15, and the subject will be “Emergencies Are Never Planned — Will You Be Ready ?” The presentation will touch on all types of emergencies. Discussion will include what you need to do to be prepared.

The seminar Sept. 16 will address “Understanding Your Health Insurance Benefit Forms.” The scope of the presentation will be to determine what your insurance has paid or not paid and why something was not covered. Several forms will be reviewed, including the Medicare Summary Notice.

The Oct. 21 presentation will be “Medicare 2016 — What Is New?” Discussion will be about what changes will be made to Medicare and Part D Prescription Drug Coverage and what action, if any, should be taken during the Annual Open Enrollment Period, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.

The last presentation of the year will be Nov. 18 and is “Scammers Enjoy the Holidays Too!” Presenters will review things we each need to do so we don’t become victims and discuss the newest scams. Some safety tips for keeping safe during the holiday season also will be addressed.

These seminars are free and no reservations are required. The Westlake Village Civic Center is located at 31200 E. Oak Crest Drive in Westlake Village. For more information call 495-6250 or 818-706-1613.

Q: At the end of your column you provide information on how to contact you. After your email address you ask senders to include their telephone number. Why?

A: Most questions I receive are complex and need more than a general response. With a telephone number I can call and ask more questions in order to help the reader. This eliminates the need to email back and forth, allows a timely response and is a warmer way of responding to the reader.
