Local volunteers made 41,000 food deliveries last year Thousand Oaks Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña and the City of Thousand Oaks will recognize Meals On Wheels Day at 11:10 a.m. Wed., March 20 at Senior Concerns, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks. The event is part of the national Mayors for Meals Day. Following the presentation, Bill de la Peña and Senior Concerns president Andrea Gallagher will deliver Meals On Wheels to local home-bound seniors. The program helps ensure that the home bound elderly do not go hungry by delivering two freshly prepared, nutritious meals each day of the year except Christmas. Last year, volunteers delivered 41,852 meals. The cost of two meals is $12; the average donation received is $5. No one is turned away due to lack of money. Fees cover 60 percent of the costs for the Meals On Wheels Program. For more information, visit www.seniorconcerns.org . More …
