QUESTION: In December Senior Concerns had a social gathering for those with memory loss and their family caregivers. Do you know if there will be more of these events?

ANSWER: The event you are referring to was the Memory Café and yes as part of Senior Concerns’ commitment to providing support for seniors with dementia and their family caregivers these events will be offered quarterly.

The next Memory Café is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at Senior Concerns Day Care Center, 401 Hodencamp Road in Thousand Oaks. Future Memory Cafes are scheduled for May 12 and Aug. 26.

The Memory Café is designed to help reduce isolation and unite people facing similar challenges. The café can provide an opportunity to give and receive support, share ideas and connect with others.

QUESTION: I heard that Cypress Place Senior Living has started a new support group for dementia caregivers. Do you have any details?

ANSWER: Cypress Place in collaboration with New Hope Senior Services will host an Alzheimer’s & Dementia Caregivers Support Group. The facilitator for the group will be Norma Featherston, a registered nurse who is a geriatric care consultant with New Hope Senior Services.

The support group meetings will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at Cypress Place Senior Living in Ventura. Attendance is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. For reservations, call 650-8000.

QUESTION: Do you have the 2017 schedule for the seminars “Will You Pass Your Next Driving Test?”

ANSWER: Yes I do. There will be six seminars given approximately every other month. They are:

Feb. 9 at Agoura Hills Recreation and Event Center, April 20 at Goebel Adult Community Center, June 27 at Simi Valley Senior Center, Aug. 22 at Moorpark Active Adult Center, Oct. 19 at Goebel Adult Community Center and Dec. 5 at Simi Valley Senior Center.

When deciding on which seminar to attend, you should consider attending one at least 30 days before you plan on going for your license. This will give you plenty of time to study.
