Q: Will the Goebel Senior Center be providing income tax preparation services this year?
A: Yes. The service is available Jan. 30 through April 11 and is for all adults 60 and older and for younger people with an income of $50,000 or less.
Services will be provided from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road in Newbury Park, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays at the Goebel Center, 1385 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks. No appointments will be taken as service will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Taxpayers whose returns include Schedule E, rental income, are ineligible. Those filling out a Schedule C, profit and loss from business, are eligible only if there is a profit and expenses are less than $5,000.
Taxpayers should present a Social Security Card and picture ID. They should bring the following.
Social Security benefits statement: SSA1099;
Wage and earning statements: W2s and 1099s;
Property tax bill, interest and dividend statements: 1099 INT, 1099 DIV and 1099B;
Cost of stocks and bonds with the date bought and sold;
A copy of 2012 federal and state tax returns;
Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit; and
Any other relevant information about income and expenses.
Taxpayers using these services at other senior centers and libraries should call the locations in advance to check for times of services and any requirement for appointments.
Those who do their own taxes and need federal forms may go to the Internal Revenue Service office at 751 Daily Drive in Camarillo. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The telephone number is 445-4771.

For state forms, contact the California Franchise Tax Board. The local office is at 300 S. Spring St. in Los Angeles. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
