Q: My friend has chronic health problems and at times does not cope with them well. Do you know of some activity or class that would benefit her attitude about living with these conditions?

A: Yes. Next month, “Healthier Living: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions” will be offered at the Goebel Senior Adult Center at 1385 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks.

The six-week program is scheduled for 9-11:30 a.m. Thursdays from June 7 to July 12. It will provide coping strategies to manage health conditions.

It is open to people age 60 and older with ongoing health conditions and is free.

The program consists of six 2 ½-hour workshops facilitated by trained leaders. The curriculum includes behavior-modification strategies to enable participants to better cope with chronic diseases, manage their medications and increase physical activity.

Screening and registration are required and can be arranged by calling 495-6250.

Healthier Living is sponsored by SCAN Senior Resource Center, Goebel Senior Adult Center and Senior Concerns.

Q: I am going to have houseguests in May and am looking for something special to do. Any suggestions?

A: The 2nd Chance Fashion Show benefiting Senior Concerns would be an excellent way to spend an afternoon.

This includes wine tasting, lunch, a fashion show featuring items from Chico’s and the Senior Concerns Bargain Boutique, a silent auction, dessert, popcorn and a private showing of “The Devil Wears Prada.”

It will take place Tuesday at Muvico Thousand Oaks, 166 W. Hillcrest Drive. The fashion show and lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the movie will start at 1:30 p.m.

Cost is $55, and reservations are required. Call 497-0189.
