Q: I am part of the boomer generation and beginning to look forward to my senior years and retirement. I find I have many questions — one being: Are there any answers available?

A: Some time ago, the Thousand Oaks Council on Aging and Senior Concerns realized many boomers would face the same type of questions. They developed “Boomer Bootcamp, ” a speaker series to help people look forward to the next 30 years.

This series is scheduled for three Wednesday evenings, Oct. 10, 17 and 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Scherr Forum Theatre.

The master of ceremonies will be Jim Cathcart, an international speaker and expert on motivation who will inspire and entertain. Featured speakers will help people rethink their 50s, 60s and 70s.

On Oct. 10, Richard Adler, organizer of the National Forum on the Future of Aging, will explore “Looking Ahead” and show how boomers will reshape the stage of life they are entering.

Oct. 17 will be devoted to “Eight Building Blocks for a Good Old Age.” Helen Dennis, author and national leader on aging and retirement, will help attendees discover that each person can age successfully and enjoy a good old age.

On Oct. 24, columnist Steve Vernon will share effective, realistic strategies for integrating finances, health and lifestyle to live long and prosper.

Tickets are $20 per event or $50 for the series and are available at the Civic Arts Plaza Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, any Ticketmaster location or by phone at 800-745-3000.

A: The annual open enrollment period when those with Medicare health care plans can change their coverage runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. Those with original Medicare, Senior Advantage plans and Medicare Part D prescription plans can change their coverage for 2013.
